{"id":103,"date":"2008-10-11T11:53:13","date_gmt":"2008-10-11T18:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chasingeden.com\/?p=103"},"modified":"2008-10-11T12:11:20","modified_gmt":"2008-10-11T19:11:20","slug":"i-predict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/chasingeden.com\/?p=103","title":{"rendered":"I predict:"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<p>We&#8217;ll see just how smart the neo-cons are come election day.<\/p>\n\t<p>History\/Macro trends are on the side of the Democrats in this election.\u00a0 The polls have them in the lead.\u00a0 The Republicans just completely f%*ked up the last 8 years.\u00a0 <strong>The Democrats would be hard pressed to lose this election, and the Republican party leadership knows that.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<p>I am beginning to think the McCain\/Palin ticket was never meant to be put to a vote.\u00a0 She&#8217;s obviously in over her head.\u00a0 She is not qualified to be vice president.\u00a0 She governed a small town in Alaska and then has been state governor for a bit (without significant distinguishing successes).<\/p>\n\t<p>That&#8217;s like me playing flag football on Saturdays poorly, and someone suddenly asking me to be starting quarterback for the Cowboys.\u00a0 It just doesn&#8217;t make sense.\u00a0 Add on top of that McCain&#8217;s age&#8230;.statistically he stands a good chance of dying in office.\u00a0 Then Palin is president.\u00a0 Surely the Republicans can&#8217;t be serious?<\/p>\n\t<p>I think they&#8217;re going to bring out a dark horse vice presidential candidate at the last second.\u00a0 Palin will have to step away from the nomination for some reason, and they&#8217;ll put forward someone else.<\/p>\n\t<p>The Republicans got a bounce in the polls when they nominated Palin (which is natural; its new, exciting, etc.)&#8230;and then when she was vetted the poll numbers dropped (since she is woefully unqualified).\u00a0 If the neo-cons could put forward someone else, and not give voters time to vet him\/her, the bounce might be enough to help McCain get elected.<\/p>\n\t<p>How would that work logistically, you ask?\u00a0 How would McCain have any credibility if he selected Palin, then unselected her?\u00a0 Surely that wouldn&#8217;t work?\u00a0 Well, I can think of one way:\u00a0 McCain is billing himself (rightly or wrongly) as a maverick.\u00a0 He is the anti-Republican Republican in a political\/economic environment where being Republican isn&#8217;t that popular.<\/p>\n\t<p>As a maverick he can say he was pressured to select Palin, and now he&#8217;s breaking free of that pressure to give America what it needs in this time of crisis.\u00a0 And who will his new VP pick be?\u00a0 I think the correct play would be a conservative Democrat (perhaps Joe Lieberman).\u00a0 Democrats and Republicans together on the same ticket; the reform and bi-partisanship America needs.\u00a0 Its not a bad idea.<\/p>\n\t<p>Think a play like that is too bold\/rash?\u00a0 Perhaps, but the Republicans are very likely going to lose this election and they know it.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve got little to lose by doing something different.\u00a0 If Americans want to elect a Democrat&#8230;give them one&#8230;on the Republican ticket.<\/p>\n\t<p>If you can&#8217;t beat &#8217;em, join &#8217;em.<\/p>\n\t<p>Just a thought.\u00a0 If I can think of doing it&#8230;so can they.\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ll see just how smart the neo-cons are come election day.
